At Melbourn Village College, we believe it is never too early for students to begin planning for life beyond Year 11. We work closely with students and families to ensure that every young person is well informed, ambitious, and confident when making decisions about their future education, training, or careers.
Cambridge Area Partnership
We are proud to be part of the Cambridge Area Partnership (CAP), a partnership of all the state-funded providers of education and training for 14-19 year olds in Cambridge, East Cambridgeshire and South Cambridgeshire. The Cambridge Area Partnership has supported schools and businesses to work together with students from the start of secondary school through further education. Form the Future, a social enterprise company support all CAP schools and work with businesses and organisations in the Cambridge area who wish to inspire and support young people.
In school support
Parents and carers of all Year 11 students are warmly invited to our Post-16 Information Evening each September. This includes a presentation on the post-16 application process, followed by the opportunity to speak directly with representatives from local sixth-form colleges, further education providers, and apprenticeship schemes. It provides students with the insight and guidance they need to make informed and ambitious choices.
At Melbourn Village College, we know that high-achieving students benefit from a broad range of experiences that complement their academic success. Students are supported in building strong CVs and personal profiles through opportunities such as sports leadership, the Duke of Edinburgh Award, character development activities, and career-focused experiences delivered through our MVC Futures Programme. These activities help students develop resilience, confidence, and leadership skills—qualities highly valued by competitive sixth forms, Russell Group universities, and apprenticeship providers.
Our careers provision is benchmarked against recognised national standards, ensuring that every student receives high-quality guidance. We provide independent and personalised careers advice for all Key Stage 4 students eligible for student premium funding, alongside wider support for other students wherever possible.
Students at MVC are encouraged to aspire to ambitious destinations, including selective sixth forms, top universities, and competitive apprenticeship opportunities. Our dedicated team ensures that every young person is fully supported, guided, and equipped to access the next step that best matches their talents and ambitions.
