Ofsted visited our school in 2025 and found that –
Melbourn Village College is a school where pupils feel proud to belong and where recent improvements are making a clear, positive difference to daily life. Pupils enjoy coming to school, feel settled in the calm environment, and value the consistent expectations set by staff. They speak warmly about the friendships, the supportive atmosphere and the wide range of opportunities available to them, from the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award to the Mandarin Excellence Programme, which even offers the chance to visit China.
Many pupils achieve well because they benefit from a well‑planned curriculum that builds their knowledge over time. In subjects where the curriculum is strongest, teaching is clear, purposeful and responsive. Teachers check understanding effectively, use questioning to deepen thinking and address misconceptions quickly. Mandarin stands out as an area of excellence, where precise teaching and regular practice lead to high levels of success.
Behaviour across the school is positive. Pupils know what is expected of them and respond well to the way staff apply school rules. Lessons are rarely disrupted, and social times are happy and harmonious, with pupils feeling safe whether they are chatting with friends, relaxing quietly or taking part in sports and clubs.
The school’s commitment to inclusion is evident. Pupils in the specialist autism provision, The Cabin, receive highly effective, tailored support that enables them to thrive. Early reading is also a clear priority, with pupils who need extra help identified quickly and supported well to become fluent, confident readers.
Pupils understand how to keep themselves safe and recognise the importance of mental health. Many benefit from a rich programme of clubs, sports and trips, as well as helpful guidance about future careers and the skills they will need.
Ofsted also noted the rapid improvements driven by school and trust leaders. These actions are already strengthening pupils’ experiences, and staff, pupils and parents increasingly share a strong sense of pride in being part of Melbourn Village College—a school moving forward with purpose and ambition.
