MVC English’s Department was deeply impressed by the breadth of thoughtful and imaginative poems, letters and diary entries produced by our Key Stage 3 students in honour of Remembrance Day.
The students work demonstrated remarkable sensitivity and creativity, and our competition winners, Polina and Max, crafted particularly compelling pieces, which you can read below.
Both Students are winners of an Amazon voucher which they have received in time for Christmas shopping.

The Lost Childhood
Children’s cries split the sky,
Toys lie broken, tell me why?
People suffer, days are grey,
Grief hangs heavy in the air.
Streets are empty, ruined homes,
I am here, but I am alone.
Memories go back to that day
When I was happy and when I played.
Children in countries which are torn by war,
Lost their childhood and even more.
Just remember:
It must never be the case
That so many lives
Feel like a waste.

Requiem of 11th November
Rows of stones, rows of dead.
Endless fields of the deceased,
Poppies turn the ground blood-red.
Our sins are now released.
With the blood of those who fought to live.
It is time for us to remember them,
Those who fought for the little white dove,
Now to sing our requiem.
They protected our freedom,
They gave us hope.
Death took those so heartsore,
Eleventh pull of the bell-rope.
Now time for us to reminisce,
To play for those we dearly miss.
