Today we were delighted to welcome Dr Molly, Director of Policy at the British Academy, for an inspiring Futures Talk. She captivated students with a behind-the-scenes look at how policies are shaped and how big ideas become actions that influence society. Dr Molly described how her role brings together civil servants, researchers, and academics to tackle complex challenges and design evidence-based policies.
She highlighted the essential skills needed in the field, from collaboration and clear communication to critical thinking and the ability to navigate rapidly changing issues. She also shared the global dimension of her work. Just last week, she attended the COP climate conference in Rio, demonstrating how careers in policy can take you across the world and place you at the heart of major conversations about our planet’s future.
Students left with a richer understanding of how humanities and social sciences can drive meaningful change and why these skills are vital in shaping the decisions that impact us all.
Next week talk will be delivered by Nico Schonken – Deputy Director of Performance and Analytics at HPFT.
